Neurotherapy is the process of teaching the brain to correct abnormal brain wave patterns and to produce normal patterns. We use specialized computer equipment, to both diagnose and treat your brain, so that you are able to recondition and retrain your brain back to balance. All of this is done without medication.
These neurotherapy treatments result in changing brain waves and thus changing the undesirable condition associated with that brain wave. Another result is the establishment of new neurological connections or the strengthening of existing connections in the relevant brain pathways.
Much like exercise training for the body, Neurotherapy is training for the brain. Based on the results of our initial brain mapping and the QEEG diagnosics, we develop a individualized and customized treatment plan. This plan is monitored reguarly for changes and improvements.
At the BAND Center we use state of the art equipment for maximum therapeutic change. Many of our clients’ treatment plans involve an integration of several neurotherapy modalities (in addition to individual, family and group psychotherapy, if desired) as the combination of modalities can often shorten the overall length of treatment.
Neurotherapy modalities available at the BAND Center include:
- Traditional Neurofeedback Training is the standard operant learning approach to changing atypical brainwave activity. With the most recent advancements in neurofeedback software, individuals can train brainwave activity near the surface of the cortex as well as at greater depth within the brain.
- pIR HEG (or Passive Infrared Hemoencephalography) is a non-invasive form of neurofeedback that uses photons rather than electrons as a signal source. This approach measures the thermal (infrared) output from the brain as a function of brain activity, measured at the center of the forehead. pIR HEG has been demonstrated to be effective in treating a range of conditions, particularly individuals with migraine headaches or executive function difficulties.
- LENS (or Low Energy Neurofeedback System) uses a very low power electromagnetic field, like the ones that surround digital watches and wires in the wall, to carry feedback to the person receiving it. These signals are absorbed into the brain’s ongoing activity, without any feeling to you.Although the feedback signal is weak, it produces a measurable change in the brainwaves without conscious effort from the individual receiving the feedback resulting in a much greater ability for the brain to regulate itself.
- NeuroField is a neurotherapy intervention which uses ultra-low intensity, pulsed electromagnetic field (pEMF) stimulation for stress reduction and relaxation. NeuroField pEMF is 10,000,000 times weaker than rTMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) which was approved by the FDA in 2008 for the treatment of depression and is the only pEMF device that measures physiological responses through heart rate variability and norm-referenced EEG.
