There is a growing body of research demonstrating the direct link between gastrointestinal inflammation and central nervous system inflammation.  When the gut is inflamed, reactive and not functioning well, the brain may also present the symptoms of inflammation.  Instead of stimulating a pain response, inflammation within the brain often gives rise to brain fog, anxiety, depression, irritability, cognitive and memory issues, crashing fatigue, mood swings, etc.

There is also an exciting new flood of research being published that is exploring the link between microbial imbalances and mental health; including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other devastating mental health issues.

At the BAND Center, we are not only embracing the gut-brain axis paradigm, we are providing practical interventions. Our naturopathic physician and nutritionist work collaboratively to assess gut-brain issues and create individualized treatment plans to address them.
